Mission Commentary Developing Servant Leaders

Developing Servant Leaders

When one first hears the term ‘servant leadership,’ it sounds like an oxymoron! However, the idea of servant leadership is a biblical model for living that is taught and modeled throughout Dallas Baptist University. In essence, it is teaching students to lead like Jesus led by serving others around them. Students at DBU find concepts of servant leadership in every major, in every classroom, in the residence halls, and even at student activities. Most students will find that they will learn about servant leadership by not only researching and reading about it, but by living it out through projects, mission opportunities, and practical experiences. The goal of teaching servant leadership is to impart the character of Christ into each student so that they will be ready to live and serve the Lord in their chosen vocation.

The final product of the higher education experience at DBU is a servant leader.
